STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education enhances many skills in youth:  creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and logistics, to name a few.  “Teaching STEM [to] elementary grades opens the doors for … students to become tomorrow’s movers and shakers.  Young children with a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics will go on to play an integral role in our nation’s global  competitiveness and economic stability.”**

The percentage of women and minorities that are employed in STEM fields is
disproportionately low.  As our communities attempt to grow and evolve,
this issue must be recognized and addressed.

Take Your Place, Inc. recognizes the need for underrepresented girls to have the opportunity to enhance their exposure to the STEM fields, and has taken on this challenge as their mission.

Take Your Place, Inc. was founded by Amy Kelley in 2016. During the summer of 2015, Amy spent numerous hours searching for a robotics summer camp for her then 6-year-old daughter. Residing on the South Side of Chicago, this proved to be a difficult task. Every robotics camp Mrs. Kelley found either was more than 20 miles from her home or had a price tag that her family could not afford.  To remedy this issue, Amy decided to host her own robotics camp for her daughter and five of her friends.  This camp met every two weeks for an afternoon.  The girls learned about pulley systems, coding and made about five different types of robots. Amy loved this expererience, most of all she loved the girls’ excitement, when the robot performed as they expected.  The girls were thrilled, the parents were happy and Amy’s daughter was so proud of the service her mom was able to provide that summer. This became Amy’s major inspiration to start Take Your Place, Inc.
