As an inventor…

Take Your Place, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was created in 2016. In Summer 2017, Take Your Place, Inc. has partnered with Bethany Union Church, which has been in the Beverly community of Chicago for over 100 years, to present the summer camp, Inventors…Take Your Place.

Our camp director this year is Amy Kelley.  Mrs. Kelley has spent over a decade teaching Mathematics in higher education.  It is her passion to provide under represented youth with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the STEM fields.

Our camp this summer will take place on Bethany Union’s campus for the entire two week period.  We will host no more than 30 girl campers, ages 6 – 12.  We will have approximately 6 – 8 camp leaders, with career experiences ranging from retired STEM CPS teachers, engineering professors, English professors and college interns.

During our program students are learning about child and female inventors, the invention process, patenting intellectual property research, writing and presentation skills.  These skills will be presented via guest speakers, videos and traditional teacher/student lectures.  Students will spend a great deal of time during the two week period researching (tablets will be available) and creating their own inventions.  The above pictures show our girls and the invention they have created during week 1.

This camp is proving to be an innovative learning experience for all young ladies who participate.  They are learning a lot, while making friends and having fun.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

No field trips are being  taken during this year’s program.
